Gordon Merk

TEACHER

CONSULTANT

MOTIVATIONAL SPEAKER

Gordon was born and raised in Switzerland. His father is Swiss, his mother English. Initially trained as a draftsman with aspirations to study architecture, he felt a call in his early twenties to share the gospel and engage in social work particularly for the less-fortunate.

He attended Bible College for one year in Southern England. Following this, he served as youth pastor and lead-worshipper in his father's churches in Switzerland. Gordon started travelling to Eastern Europe for youth camps and missions, and eventually emigrated in his mid-twenties to South-Eastern Europe where he served various churches and youth conferences across different denominations. He founded a charity for social work in Bulgaria to help orphans, people with disability and the elderly

After earning a degree in theology from an American university in Sweden, Gordon served as pastor and Bible teacher in churches in England before returning to Bulgaria. He also started travelling to Southern Africa to minister in churches, speak at conferences and train pastors.

During his time as missionary and pastor in Bulgaria, Gordon also established a Christian charity dedicated to spreading the Gospel in word and deed. Together with a team, he organised youth conferences with young people from different parts of Europe, focussing on motivation, training and social welfare activities.

In addition to his social work, Gordon is dedicated to teaching and writing, as well as supporting ministers and coaching pastors. He believes in the importance of encouragement and empowerment. In a world filled with strife, he believes, we need more love; in a world of confusion, we need clarity; in a world of deception, we need truth; in a world of sadness, we need more joy; and in a world of despair, we need hope!

Gordon's mission in life is to make the world a better place and seeks to encourage others to do the same. He believes that every person is precious and has something to give to ease the pain in a suffering world. Gordon aims to inspire hope for a better future. Despite the hardships in life, there is a way to handle it in a positive way and be a light in a dark place.

TRUTH

REVELATION

THE WORD OF GOD

We believe that the Bible is the inspired Word of God, offering us truth, wisdom and encouragement of divine origin. The Bible is God's gift to humanity. It His Word, explaining who He is and outlining how He wants us to live. It is, by way of illustration, an 'instruction manual.' As Creator, He knows best how we are to live and His laws reflect that goodness.

The Bible is inspired by God (2 Tim 3:16-17), hence carries divine authority. This is not be enforced, but taught and understood. God offers us life or death, blessings or curses, and we are free to choose. The wisdom of God in Scripture is unsurpassed in human literature or religious texts. We do well to heed its wisdom and live by its moral laws.

The Bible is also encouragement for life (Rom 15:4). Life has many challenges, trials and struggles, yet Scripture offers us comfort and encouragement by real-life examples. The Bible is a real book with real people in real life. Imperfect as we are, Scriptures shows us how these people wrestled with life and how God interacted with them and often interfere on their behalf.

Scripture has to be approached with faith and humility. The fear of God, having a reverence for God and His Law, is the beginning of wisdom (Prov 1:7). People who despise the Bible won't discover its wealth of truth, wisdom and encouragement. God gives grace to the humble. Those who fear the Lord shall understand His covenant (Ps 25:14). He can open our hearts to see the wondrous things in His Law (Ps 119:18).

The apostles did not handle the word of God deceitfully, like others, but with sincerity and a clean conscience (2 Cor 4:2). They faithfully transmitted what Jesus, their Master and Rabbi (Teacher) taught them. They did not preach themselves or their own message; they preached Christ Jesus as Lord and Saviour (v 5). They preached Christ and Him and crucified (1 Cor 1:23; 2:2). They taught the whole counsel of God as they're witnessed to the gospel of the grace of God (Ac 20:24-27).

We can trust the Scriptures to be reliable in what it affirms. It offers us truth, wisdom and encouragement for life and godliness.
